2018 is officially over and what a year it has been. 2018 has been a bit disappointing movie wise because while I liked a lot of films, this year’s films ultimately didn’t stick with me as they have done before, there weren’t many films that I absolutely loved and remembered. And keep in mind that I still haven’t seen some of the newer released Oscar buzz films like If Beale Street Could Talk or Burning.

Honorable Mentions: Never Goin’ Back, Eighth Grade, Black Panther, The Hate U Give,  Mission Impossible: Fallout, Annihilation, and Bad Times at the El Royale.  These are all great films that I debated putting on this list, but didn’t make the cut.

10. A Quiet Place – A suspenseful, edge of your seat horror film that created the perfect theater experience. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt shine along with newcomer Millicent Simmonds . Review

9. BlackKklansman – John David Washington and Adam Driver are able to navigate through very serious and sensitive subject matter and are able to bring some humor to an incredible true story. Review

8. First Man – Damien Chazelle’s third feature that doesn’t deliver as well as his first two and may seem a bit dull at times. But the ending on the moon is still heartbreaking and unforgettable. Review

6. The Favourite – A hilarious and witty film unlike any period piece done before. Fantastic performances from the three women leads, but may be too out there for mainstream audiences. Review

5. A Star is Born – A great directorial debut by Bradly Cooper, who was able to bring fresh air into a story told three times before. The chemistry between Cooper and Gaga is magnetic and is the soundtrack of the year. Review

2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse – An inventive and delightful story of the new Spider-Man, Miles Morales. Amazing animation, great characters, and a ton of heart makes this the best Spider-Man movie in my opinion. Review

1. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? – A documentary that captures the lasting and positive effect that Mister Rogers left on the world. This film makes you have faith in humanity and may make you a bit misty eyed if you grew up watching his show. Review
