2020 is year and with it comes another promising year of films. I’m particularly excited since there are a great number of women-led films both in front of and behind the camera in 2020. Since it’s early in the year, none of the smaller, independent films are really known until the Sundance Film Festival later this month, so this list will mainly be bigger films. I will also do a Top 10 of 2019 list, but that won’t be up until I have seen 1917, which is a major awards contender this year.
So here is what I’m most looking forward to at the moment for the upcoming year with some honorable mentions that go out to Godzilla vs. Kong, Eternals, and Bob’s Burgers who didn’t quite make the list.
Honey Boy follows Otis (Lucas Hedges) as an actor finding himself stuck in rehab and is diagnosed with PTSD. This diagnosis seems come from the time when he was a young child actor (played by Noah Jupe) living with his abusive father (Shia LaBeouf).
Jumanji: The Next Level follows Spencer (Alex Wolff), Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain), Martha (Morgan Turner), and Britney (Madison Iseman) during their winter break of their freshman year in college. Spencer, who is struggling more than his friends in college life, decides to go back into the Jumanji game to re-gain some confidence as Dr. Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson). However, the game glitches and Spencer’s grandfather (Danny DeVito) and his friend (Danny Glvoer) find themselves stuck in the game.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the conclusion to the recent trilogy of Star Wars movies. It follows Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Issac) as they are faced with the return of Emperor Palpatine.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood follows Esquire journalist, Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys), when he is assigned to profile Mister Rogers (Tom Hanks) as his estranged father (Chris Cooper) has recently came back into his life.
Marriage Story is Noah Baumbach’s latest film that follows Nicole (Scarlett Johannson) and Charlie (Adam Driver) as they are going through a divorce.
The Irishman follows Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) as he gets sucked into the world of crime. He becomes a hit-man who is stuck trying to keep peace between his two friends, Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci).
Knives Out is the latest film from Rian Johnson. It is a murder mystery that has some political undertones. The film stars Ana de Armas, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jaime Lee Curtis, Toni Collette among many others.Continue reading “Knives Out (2019)”
